The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

Consider this a dare for those in enduring partnerships who appreciate scary movies: Get comfortable with your partner and view Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its online premiere via Hulu. Outwardly, it could look like typical biological terror, but beneath Together exists a deep contemplation about our choices in loving one another.

An Introductory Film Exploring The Nuances of Love

Together is the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, an unmarried couple that have remained a couple for over ten years. Married in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a unique chemistry to their characters, skillfully embodying both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The narrative commences when the couple relocate from the big city to the country for Millie’s job. A somewhat stereotypical story element, of course, but that’s primarily where the tropes end. Together evolves into as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their rural residence, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim tumble into an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and managing to escape, a supernatural entity begins influencing the couple. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying fright fest, interspersing bits of dreamlike terrors, disturbing (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and genuinely funny interactions (sometimes amidst something grotesque). The director orchestrates these parts neatly and wraps them up in a gradually swelling sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they masterfully render countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

Conversely, Tim senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve left the city and removed from his social circle. He dreads the concept of completely losing his individual identity in Millie. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he does not operate a vehicle and is dependent on Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together never makes either of his characters the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie grapple with the kind of problems that come with most partnerships over a long period. At their core, they still love each other. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and open up at times. But beneath it all, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these fears of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to another person, the symbolism does not come across as clumsy or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements provide a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the frights and the fights serve the other in harmony.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the movie's final takeaway about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that single viewers have understood the narrative as a compelling reason for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, certain partners having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own response could act as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the ending plant a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you identify in either protagonist and feel frustration, or simply turn to your partner and utter, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can undertake right now.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu at present.
